The Gombe State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Livestock Innovation Corporation (LIC) of New Zealand to strengthen livestock production, improve value-chain efficiency, and accelerate innovation in the state’s animal husbandry sector.
The agreement formalises cooperation between Gombe and LIC to introduce advanced livestock technologies, research collaborations, and private-sector engagement that can transform local livestock systems from farm-level practices to commercial processing.
Under the pact, both parties will explore ways to promote genetic improvement programs, animal health solutions, and capacity building for farmers and livestock stakeholders in the state. Officials noted that the collaboration is aligned with Gombe’s broader livestock development agenda and the state’s strategic efforts to modernise agribusiness.
The New Zealand-based LIC, known for its expertise in livestock technologies and sustainable production systems, will provide technical assistance, training programmes, and potential investment pathways aimed at improving productivity and resilience in Gombe’s livestock sector.
For Gombe State, the partnership is expected to help local farmers access cutting-edge practices, enhance animal health and nutrition standards, and boost competitiveness in regional and national markets. The MoU underscores Gombe’s commitment to expanding its livestock economy through public-private partnerships, technology transfer, and global collaboration, positioning the state to benefit from international best practices while improving livelihoods for livestock producers.
