Google has announced the commencement of a ₦3 billion funding programme aimed at strengthening artificial intelligence (AI) skills development and improving digital safety across Nigeria.
The initiative, launched through Google.org, will provide grants to selected organisations responsible for training Nigerians in advanced digital competencies and promoting safer internet practices.
According to the company, the funding will support programmes designed to enhance the country’s digital workforce, expand access to AI education, and help young people and public institutions adopt safer online behaviours.
Under the scheme, partner organisations will deliver training in AI literacy, machine learning fundamentals, and responsible online engagement, with a focus on equipping youths, students, educators, and community groups with relevant digital capabilities.
Google said the programme aligns with its broader commitment to supporting Africa’s digital transformation, noting that Nigeria remains a priority market for talent development and responsible technology adoption.
The tech giant added that the ₦3bn fund is expected to scale ongoing efforts to prepare Nigerians for emerging opportunities in the AI-driven global economy while also addressing rising concerns around cybersecurity and online safety.
