Dr. Emomotimi Agama is the Director-General of Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), appointed by President Bola Tinubu in April 2024 and confirmed by the Senate in June 2024. With over two decades of experience at the SEC, he has held several pivotal roles—including Managing Director of the Nigerian Capital Market Institute and Head of Registration, Exchanges, and Market Infrastructure. Under his leadership, the SEC has advanced initiatives in modernizing capital market regulation, introducing cryptocurrency frameworks, and enhancing investor protection, earning him recognition as a forward-thinking market regulator.
Dr. Agama’s robust academic background includes an honors degree in Accountancy from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, PortHarcourt, and dual master’s degrees in Banking and Finance and Economics from the University of Benin. He earned his PhD in Economics with distinction from Nile University, where he focused on the impact of cryptocurrency operations on Nigeria’s macroeconomic variables. In addition, he holds a postgraduate certificate in Capital Markets from George Washington University and numerous professional certifications. A Fellow of the IFC–Milken Institute Capital Markets Program, his extensive expertise and commitment to excellence continue to drive transformative regulatory reforms in Nigeria’s capital markets.
